Dr David King was educated at Cambridge University and the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) and received his phd in Molecular Biology from Edinburgh University. Since 1990 he has been a writer and campaigner on ethical, social and environmental issues raised by biotechnology. He was director of the Genetics Forum from 1990 to 1993, editor of GenEthics News from 1993 to 2000. In 2000 he became the founder director of Human Genetics Alert, Britain’s only watchdog group on those issues. In 2010 he was one of the founders of Luddites200, a network which has organised events to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Luddite uprisings, and in 2013 to 2014 he was the main organiser of the Breaking the Frame gathering. Dr King has written articles for many publications and is a frequent contributor to television and radio discussions on issues raised by genetics.
