The disaster at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant brought new attention to the place of nuclear energy in our world today. IFG advocates a strong anti-nuclear stance and is working to keep the nuclear debate moving forward, rather than stagnating once it becomes “yesterday’s news.” We see the issue of nuclear energy as especially cogent in the context of what has been deemed the Triple Crisis – the convergence of climate change, peak energy, and dire shortages of essential resources like water and arable lands. As in the case of fossil fuels, the debate over nuclear energy must be connected to more systemic issues of economics and environmental stewardship. IFG’s stance on this issue will be detailed more extensively in our upcoming report, “Nuclear Roulette,” which will serve as the newest addition to the “False Solutions” research series.
IFG provides strong support for analysts and organizations that have for years been vigilantly researching the dangers and implications of reliance on nuclear energy. We are especially thrilled to partner with Green Action Japan in order to ensure that the debate surrounding this issue reflects the urgency with which we must move.
Action is a Japanese citizens organization (NGO)
campaigning to stop Japan's plutonium program. Based
in Kyoto, Green Action provides timely information
in Japanese and English about nuclear fuel cycle issues.
We believe Japanese energy policy should shift away
from nuclear fuel cycle development to advancement
of conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy
NUCLEAR ROULETTE also offers a keen look at alternative energy scenarios, combined with effective conservation strategies, which will guarantee a livable future. This in combination with an inarguable indictment of nuclear energy makes NUCLEAR ROULETTE: The Case Against a Nuclear Renaissance, an indispensable resource in the movement toward a more durable and just energy future.
